Recently I talked about this great blog I came across called BloggingExperiment.com that is taking a step by step approach to turning a blog into income. This site has been invaluable and it’s host, Ben Cook appears to be genuine and excited about others learning from his site. He replies to my questions very quickly.
Day3 (July 6th) – He suggests possible income streams
Not every blogger thinks about making money by writing. Many people don’t even know you can. But once you do, you’ve got to learn how. There are several option. Now, I don’t know one from another, so I’m trying to get more information on what’s best. But this is no easy task as there are so many and so many different opinions.
Contextual Ads:
– example: Google AdSense, Yahoo Publisher, Kontera
Google AdSense seems to be a no brainer. Everybody uses them. They are known to pay. There are some downsides to using them but I’m not at that point. So I’ve signed up for AdSense and had it running for a couple weeks now. I’ve actually earned $50 already. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it took Ben at BloggingExperiment.com nineteen days to make his first dollar. I don’t ever expect to surpass him, but it’s a good start.
Paid Links:
– example: Text-Link-Ads.com, Text Link Brokers, Link Adage
This is an area I really didn’t know about. But I did a search for text link ads because I’ve seen those words at the bottom of lists of links on other blogs so i figured others were using them so I’d give them a try.
After having signed up with Text-Link-Ads.com I noticed there were none of these ads on BloggingExperiment so I did a little research. Here’s what he said:
As I mentioned last month, they had trouble accurately reporting the number of new clients and publishers I had referred. It was only after several emails to their support team that I finally saw numbers that I thought were accurate. Needless to say, the fact no referrals were reported for this month hasn’t done anything to help TLA’s standing in my eyes. As a result I’ve removed the affiliate button and will look for other programs to promote.
That says a lot.
Paid Posts:
– SponsoredReviews, ReviewMe, PayPerPost
It seems that Ben really likes SponsoredReviews, so I figure it can’t be bad. So, I signed up too. I got my approval email about 18 hours later and have been looking the information over. Looks like decent money to be made. So, we’ll see how that goes.
I’m curious to see how things progress in not only my blog but also on BloggingExperience as well. Keep checking back for an update on both.
Our lives are overflowing with information. Everywhere we look we are being screamed at by all sorts of media: books , movies, magazines, blogs, podcasts, newspapers, TV shows, and much more.
At some point we have to make a decision about what to do with it all. We have to either turn it off and throw it away, ignoring it all because we can't take anymore. Or we have to sort the wheat from the chaff, figure out what it is telling us, consider what we can learn from it, and implement that practices that can make us better.
Lernr is about that process of learning what we can from different sources and applying it to our lives.

The reason I pulled down the Text Link Ads was Google’s crusade against paid ads. I later lost my PageRank anyway but the Text Link Ads leave such an obvious footprint that I have no doubt placing the ads on your site would hurt it in Google’s eyes.
I’m seeing more and more people pay for links that do have the nofollow tag applied and even though I don’t like Google’s policy on the issue, it’s definitely the safe way to go.
